Frankincense, perhaps you’ve heard of it.  It’s referenced in the good book… you know the one!

What you may not know is just how powerful and beneficial it is for supporting health and vitality… from ancient Jerusalem all the way to the Big Apple.

Regardless of what you believe, history tells us that three wise men believed this powerful plant to be worthy of the next king.

And at the end of the day, if it was good enough for baby Jesus, chances are, it’s healthy for you and me.

Let’s start from the begining, shall we?

Frankincense is referenced as far back as 16th century BC in the oldest known medical records, the Ebers Papyrus from ancient Egypt.  Why does this matter?  Because before the internet, state-of-the-art research labs, and advances in modern medicine, ancient civilizations recognized that this plant was a power-house, and documented its importance for medicinal and wellness purposes from generation to generation.

It goes without saying that frankincense has a sacred connotation, but not without merit. The Bible mentions it 52 times, and in ancient times, it was considered more valuable than gold.  Its scent is earthy yet uplifting, with a slightly sweet-woodsy aroma. When inhaled through the nose or diffused into the air, frankincense may promote a sense of peace, relaxation, grounding and connectedness. It’s the perfect companion for getting into a meditative, spiritual state.

Beyond its aromatic benefits, frankincense has been the focus of several scientific studies, substantiating what ancient civilizations have long understood: that it is an important ally in a holistic wellness tool box.

Frankincense comes from the resin of trees of the genus Boswellia, typically grown in Africa. Its key constituents include some major power players such as alpha-pinene and limonene.  These properties promote enhanced immune function.  Alpha-pinene specifically is also anti-microbial (it fights off bacteria) and neuro-protective (supporting optimal brain function). Studies show that boswellic acids are documented to be some of the strongest anti-inflammatory compounds in frankincense, and are particularly effective for people who suffer from chronic aches and pains. From wear and tare injuries to rheumatoid arthritis, these properties help flush out the system of excess inflammation and support our bodies natural healing response.  Studies show that boswelic acids may be just as effective as NSAIDS, but with fewer side effects.

There are several ways one can experience the benefits of frankincense essential oil.  However, before you start using any e.o.’s, it is of the utmost importance that you do you research and be sure to only use therapeutic grade products.  Anything less than is compromised, and frankly when it comes to your health, you shouldn’t settle for anything less than the best!

Frankincense has earned its title as “The King of Oils” because of its versatility.

When used topically, frankincense touts powerful anti-aging properties. It promotes cellular function and the appearance of healthy-looking skin, evening out skin tone and minimizing blemishes.

Taken internally, frankincense promotes healthy immune function and overall well-being.

And lastly, diffusing frankincense is an excellent way to naturally purify the air while enjoying all of the aeromatic benefits.
