While life is about balance, we all stumble sometimes (figuratively & literally)! Sometimes our internal state just gets off kilter. Fortuantely, there’s some simple things we can do to bring us back to center. Depending on what aspect of our energy is “off,” there’s different tools to help us reset!
The first chakra, the root or mūlādhāra, is located at the base of the spine at the pelvic floor. It is associated with survival, security, self-preservation, and feeling grounded. It is the chakra of our basic needs, stability and our right to be here in the world.
- Element: Earth. To connect you to a sense of grounding and stability..
- Color: Red. On a physical level red is associated with adrenal glands, whose function is associated with the “fight or flight” or our instinctual survival response.
When our root is out of balance, the following may mainfest:
- Feeling sluggish or stuck
- Being stressed out due to over-reliance on external circumstances
- Trouble balancing the check book & persistent financial problems
- A sense of insecurity and fear of abandonment
- Chronic disorganization or material hoarding
- Feeling you are not good enough the way you are
Bringing it back to balance, will create:
- Strong connection with your family and friends
- Feeling wanted and loved
- Being content with your body
- Confident with money
- Manifest having enough for what you need and want
- The ability to “stand on one foot (or two),” on and off your mat
Simple ways to GET GROUNDED and balance your root:
- YOGA POSE: Savasana and Childs Pose
- ESSENTIAL OIL: Vetiver. Essential oils that are good for balancing the Root Chakra tend to be earthy and warm, and promote a sense of grounding. Think of trees with deep roots that support trees that stand tall above the earth as a metaphor for Nature’s Root Chakra.
- TRY THIS AT HOME: Sitting in a comfortable position, rub a few drops of Vetiver between the palm of your hands and inhale deeply, visualize a glowing red light, radiating from your root chakra. As you inhale, see the red light expand, as you exhale use the Mantra “LAM.”
